Refurbishments and rebranding underway at BON Hotels’ Nigerian properties

Following BON Hotels’ acquisition of 4 Protea Hotels in Nigeria from Mariott Hotels last year, and with further management contracts under negotiation, the group has commenced an aggressive rebranding and refurbishment plan to have all the hotels completed for re-launch later this year. Managed by the African arm, BON Hotel International West Africa (BHIWA), the group has taken over management, marketing and administration of Protea Hotel Asokoro in Abuja, which is currently undergoing a complete refurbishment of all rooms and public areas and will be rebranded BON Hotel Stratton Asokoro.

Commenting on the refurbishment plan, CEO of BON Hotels Guy Stehlik says, “Our strategy is to be competitive in our offering, service delivery and price – to create a four-star standard international Nigerian hotel chain that caters to the inter-regional businessman and the international and Nigerian local traveller with alternatives designed to meet their requirements.”

The refurbishment at BON Hotel Stratton Asokoro is in progress with minimum inconvenience to guests. The rooms are almost complete and the public areas, swimming pool area and back of house will commence shortly – the completion date is anticipated within two months.

Located in the heart of the Abuja business district, that is the pulse of Nigeria, and in close proximity to consulates, embassies and government institutions, the hotel caters to local, international and leisure travellers, as well as government and corporate clients.

The hotel has 83 spacious en-suite rooms, all with standard amenities plus a few extras, and, in keeping with tradition, shoe-shining in the passageways. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and other facilities include a fitness centre, car hire, airport shuttles, secure parking, same-day valet service and a currency exchange.

Conference facilities comprise 3 executive function rooms seating 30 to 150 delegates in various configurations, all available with the standard equipment required.

Stratton Place Restaurant offers à la Carte or buffet menus including excellent local Nigerian dishes. Guests can enjoy their favourite tipple at the poolside or from the Lounge Café bar. There is also a 24-hour in-room dining service.

Bernard Cassar, Executive Director of BON Hotel International West Africa, says, “We are creating a value-for-money experience, an experience that is truly African, yet benchmarked against 4-star international standards, meeting and exceeding expectations whilst providing the ‘golden thread’ of service delivery that is expected by the discerning traveller.”

“The refurbishments will meet and exceed expectations,” adds Pieter Bekker, BHIWA Executive Director. The new BON Hotel Stratton Asokoro will be positioned as an international, 4-star, full-service hotel, at affordable prices, offering personal, friendly and efficient service that is synonymous with BON Hotels operating standards.
